Development of an Economic Cross Border Micro-region Policy Brief for the SME sector in Macedonia, K

Project Description

EWI contracted EPI CENTAR International to prepare  an economic policy brief for the broader GPKT micro region. The broader GPKT micro region covers border municipalities i.e. four municipalities in Serbia, three in Kosovo and five in Macedonia which comprise a micro region with a relatively low economic development and high unemployment rate.

EPI CENTAR conducted a desk research identifying the most potential sectors for economic development in the region then completed it with a field research through sixty interviews in the broader GPKT region with the SME sector in the six selected sectors. The research findings were presented  on three focus group discussions in Prishtina, Skopje and Vranje where all stakeholders, including the municipal authorities, chambers of commerce, representatives from the SME sector, developmental agencies and donors, presented their views on the findings and they were collected and incorporated in the final policy brief.

The policy brief for enhancement of the cooperation between SME sectors in Macedonia, Kosovo and Serbia identified the main constraints for cooperation between the SME sectors in the micro region on all levels, the most potential areas of cooperation as well as the immediate actions necessary to be undertaken by each stakeholder group in the GPTK region.
